Don't Worry

You and I have a tendancy to grow anxious, especially when we are responsible for another's life. God wants us to feel secure in His love and believe like children--throwing ourselves into the arms of our heavenly Father with a trust in Him that has no limits. He doesn't want us to be afraid but to trust Him with everything that concerns us.

Jesus said, Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gatheer into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? . . . And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. . . .Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:25-33).

Jesus used contemporary images of the times when He was here on earth. The lilies of the field He spoke about in this Scripture look like red poppies, which are seen everywhere in Israel, even today. The birds and the flowers of the field remind us that God knows our needs. We can trust Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

Prayer: Holy Father, I cast my anxiety on you, knowing you care about everything that happens to my family and me. Help me trust you with the results. Help me to teach my children to trust you too. In Jesus' name, Amen.
